Congratulations!

First off, a tremendous congratulations to Mike and Misty on their engagement! He's not too bad, as far as little brothers go, and it's been lots of fun getting to know her.

My book came! Woo!

Special thanks to:

Anna and Matie Truwe
for editing the manuscript

Matthew Poush
for researching
Des Moines newspapers

Inasmuch as Annna Truwe was my original inspiration for starting I Eat Paint, it's pretty cool to think that we share a 'special thanks' box. (Note: Although her name is technically 'Anna', she uses 'Annna', as seen here.)

I had a small group of friends over on Friday night. The biggest of apologies if you weren't invited; it was highly last-minute and I wasn't able to contact everyone I wanted to.

That said, a lot of fun was had. We put Nightmare Before Christmas on the projector, ate a bunch of chips and candy, and we listened to Thriller and Monster Mash 20 thousand million times. Misty had carved a pumpkin to look like Jack, the Pumpkin King, and there were various candles and such for ambience. All in all, it went off pretty well. One of the biggest hits, though, was provided by my friend Amanda by way of the pen-and-paper game 'Alternative Origami'. You write the name of a person and fold the paper down so the name is hidden, and then pass it to your left. You then take your new sheet, write another name on it, fold it over, and pass it to the left again. Then, you write what the two of them did, pass it, write where they did it, pass it, write why they did it, and pass it again. You should end up with a folded piece of paper in your hand that has a bizarre story on it. You then take turns reading it out loud.

Mostly, you end up with sentences like "Mary's little lamb and Quentin Tarantino denounced the evils of taffy pulls in Paris because they like how it smells in spring-time." or "Mr. T and Gary Coleman defended their castle at your house because there were no more guns at S-Mart." Because most of you weren't there, I wrote an RSG grammar to allow you to randomly generate a sample Alternative Origami sentence.

Isn't being in a book great? ;) I'm in one, too. I wrote a poem when I was younger and it was published in a book of children's poetry. It's true, people *do* like to see their name in print. I guess it's an ego thing! ^^;
