Some random nothings
I can't think of a good subtitle

I ordered an iBook. The backpack carrying case came today, and the laptop itself will be here on Wednesday or Thursday. I got the 12 inch model (including Bluetooth and an Airport card). The Airport Express base station will show up at some point, but I don't know when.

I almost bought a car but decided not to. I'm fickle like that.

Right now on the iPod is Touch of Love by Jacky Cheung, and it's quite awesome (and, contrary to his bio, not even the slightest like Barry Manilow). I picked up the album the summer I lived in China, and still listen to it periodically. He was wildly popular over there among 20-somethings, and I was always interested to see if he was going to catch on here in America. His lyrics were smart, funny, and aware of American pop culture. Plus, he was in a movie called Where's Officer Tuba?, and you can't beat that with a stick.

I went to Ben's on Thursday, had some barbecue, played a little air hockey and, as a team, won Trivial Pursuit: Pop Culture Edition against Sarah and Debra. It's like the Trivial Pursuit people made a game just for me. How many games have the question "In Zork, what would eat you if you went into a dark place?"

Friday night, Ben and I visited Clicks for a little Battlefield action, and then I watched The Man Who Wasn't There. Quite a bizarre film. The acting was good, and the cinematography was gorgeous, but the plot itself derailed somewhere around 2/3rds into the movie.

Saturday, I played at Clicks with Andy, Brian, and Adam. We were chitchatting, and it turns out both Brian and Adam work in the Regency West Office Park with me. Is there anyone employed in West Des Moines that doesn't work in the Regency buildings?

also, i posted a poll on my live journal and have gotten a pathetic number of responses. so i think everyone who reads this site should visit my lj and reply with their opinion.

Must have been a fun weekend!!! :)

 DebraMatt - Aug 16th, 2004 at 4:21 pm
Not that I know of. She's just a friend of Sarah's.

Umm... PS I couldn't get the "car" link to work...blarg...I'd love to see what car you almost bought....:)

 If my car ever needs a jumpstart...Andy - Aug 16th, 2004 at 10:10 pm
I'd would definitely give Matt a call. Saturday night after Clicks, Matt helped a couple of kids jump start their car. The lesser man that I am would have failed miserably at the task. So congrats to Matt a.k.a. Gunhaver in receiving this weeks Good Samaritan award!

See, I don't read this for the information. I read it for witty comments like, "can't beat that with a stick" that I can insert into my daily conversations to amuse myself. That's great.

so perhaps i overestimated the capabilities of the average i eat paint user (just kidding). to find my poll you will have to scroll down a few entries-it is the entry labeled "a poll." i only have like five entries on my lj, so i have confidence you can locate it.

Sorry, try this link.

I also was bummed that the car link would not work. The updated "try this" link did not work either. I will have to see it another time I guess! Can you describe the car to us so we can get a visual or something?

The Car (Once and For All)Matt - Aug 17th, 2004 at 4:54 pm
The link for the car is http://www.edmunds.com/used/2002/acura/tl/100002216/review.html . It's a 2002 Acura 3.2 TL.

I just wanted to comment too, so I don't feel left out!

i am a very nonviolent person. I have never been in a fist fight before, but i will be destroyed if i haven't almost become engaged in fisticuffs with an australian during Trivial Pursuit. if this piques anyone's interests i will elaborate if not i will just quietly go back to my corner.

What an odd set of engagement rings. Why the Australian?

 To KathyBrian - Aug 20th, 2004 at 5:47 pm
It's Brian, not Brain, but you may call me what you want. :) I don't think I know you, I work in Regency 8 for Citi. A big lunch grouping would be cool though. Matt, hook us up. WOLFPACK...FEED!!!

I love Trivial Pursuit - although I've never played the Pop Culture edition. (that's the DVD-based game, right? You don't use cards, but rather a DVD ... ????) My dad's side of the family plays that game on a semi-regular basis, so I usually get a game or two in when I go home for breaks. It's fun - I'm one of the youngest grandkids, so we're all pretty much old enough to actually know some answers. It's amazing what things you know and don't know sometimes ... (and it's weird to find out what some of your family members know!)

 australiangreg - Sep 1st, 2004 at 5:48 pm
Why the australian you ask Ms Lane? Why not? Basically over the summer there was this international competition held in my city. My high school had won a spot, and since we were from a host city, the director asked if our team would put up some members of an australian team. We thought that's cool, get to meet new people from different places, etc, plus my teammate just got his license and Prius, so we had the whole state of KY open to us. Make a longer story short, we get the loudest, most obnoxious, most profane, most spoiled brat that the international community had to offer. By the fifth day when our team was playing trivial pursuit, I had had just about enough of how hearing how lazy and stupid americans were, i just went off. Apologized profusely, but definitely have it out for australia. Life's weird like that

wow, i am mentioned on this website like 3 times. this is awesome! i am finally online. so, about this jeopardy...a rematch is in order and sarah and i are going to kick some serious A!

I've given up. Ben always beats me at every game. Well except for the time I forced him to play sweet valley high. I dominate that game.
