Labor Day
These subtitles don't really mean anything anymore.

So, went to see Michael Ian Black on Friday night, and I have to say I was rather disappointed. He was quite funny on I Love the 80s and Reno: 911. I think I got a skewed perspective of his sense of humor, as I've only ever seen him on television, where he has to be relatively clean. A lot of his stand up was really rather crude, and frankly not that funny.

Saturday was a lazy day, spent napping and playing at Clicks with Brian, and then headed home to Grinnell. On the way, I stopped at Wal-Mart to pick up some foamboard and paint for chroma-keying, and when I got into town, I drug Mike out to his new place so we could paint the foamboard. Came back Sunday afternoon do discover it had blown all over his yard and the paint was pretty much as non-even as can be. Grr. We're never going to get this filmmaking off the ground. Then, Sunday night at Brian's place for a little Adult Swim.

Monday, true to its Labor Day nature, was spent doing largely... nothing. Barbecued with Kathy & Kevin, the Fatties, and Diana, played a Clue-spinoff game, did some reading, and watched a little of Kill Bill, Vol. 1. All in all, a good weekend. I just wish these big ones rolled around more often.

Back to the idea of chromakeying, do you guys think painting some sort of surface is my best bet, or does anyone have any idea on where I can get cheap, sturdy, smooth material that's either this shade: (#00FF00) or this shade: (#0000FF)? 'Cause we don't really have any money to build sets or get permits to shoot at places (or, for that matter, to hire actors).

I made a movie quite a number of years ago. It's short, small, and (in case you don't understand it) wasn't really supposed to make sense. It was just an excuse to play with the camera and iMovie.

As for your backgrounds, try Seamless or Savage photographic background papers. I personally, from experience, preffer Seamless. I am sure you can figure out where to purchase them. But, believe me, especially if you want to get into photo or film making, Seamless is an affordable, easy way to get your chroma colours. They even offer papers specifically for video!! Good luck Sweets!!! I hope all is well.

Clue-like game sounds interesting. I've always like Clue, but most of my family is very ... eh ... about it. It could be something fun to do sometime, definitely. Glad you enjoyed your weekend, too. :)

Mr. Black, and Hobby LobbyLillibet Layne - Sep 9th, 2004 at 1:40 pm
I was pretty glad that it was a free show... I went over early, thinking I was late, and stood in the beginning of the line, so that I could sit in the first two rows. I was looking for the hometown humor of Stuckeybowl... about thirty seconds into the performance, I decided to duck down in my seat so I couldn't see him as easily, and try to sleep.

Chromakey: You can always try to make a cheap frame and put fabric on it... it won't rip, it'll be reusable (everyone needs a lime green jumpsuit. It makes life more interesting) and you can fold it down and move it. Wal-Mart, Hobby Lobby- check around for a place that just has cheap cotton fabric and buy it by the yard. Then build the frame. And if you hate contructing things from wood, or fabric, find me. Because it can be fun to play with tools! :-D

We don't actually have a script or even any rough ideas. At this point, our skills (shooting, acting, directing, etc) are so bad that we'd bollocks it up. Thus, we're just filming pointless nothings until we get good at filming.

And then we'll release those nothings as bonus features on the Special Edition DVDs of our huge blockbuster movies.
