The Color Purple
Plus, my friggin car dies

On Tuesday night I watched The Color Purple. Highly recommended, with lots of amazing performances. I rented it, knowing absolutely nothing about the movie other than I'd seen the box for years as a boy when I went to Grinnell's Cinema to rent movies and Nintendo games. I always enjoy going into a good movie with absolutely no knowledge of the plot. One thing that highly amused me was one of the characters referring to another as a 'Jook Joint Jezebel'. I can't decided if KMFDM got the name for their song 'Juke Joint Jezebel' from the movie, or if it was coincidence. I wouldn't have assumed a German nihilist industrial group was really into Alice Walker, but maybe they were sensetive tortured souls.

Came down the next morning to discover my car wouldn't go anywhere. It started fine, but putting it in drive or reverse made it die. Dan, Andy, and I pushed it from our apartment to a service center and they're looking at it today. I'm thinking it may be time to start looking at that Acura again... My dad and brother made a trip up to Des Moines last night to loan me my dad's car. How awesome is that?

I am planning on getting a group together to go to the Corn Maze in a couple of weekends. Anyone in the area interested?

 YAY CORN!!!Mrs Fatty - Oct 8th, 2004 at 6:54 am
We'd love to go--any weekend, except this upcoming weekend--cause we're going to be in MN....so, let us know!

 Let me know...Lillibet Layne - Oct 9th, 2004 at 12:09 am
I am definitely going to be gone the 23rd for Brittney's wedding shower (YAY!!) but if you go next weekend I might be up for it. I have to be in town for Halloween, so if you really, REALLY want to do it when it's hectic and crazy, let me know. But I would recommend next week... maybe... unless I go home, in which case I don't care. So keep me updated... because I'm obviously crazy!

 Wait a sec!Lillibet Layne - Oct 9th, 2004 at 12:12 am
HOW far away was this? I don't remember any service centers in the area...

I may be in for the corn maze. Give me a little advance warning, so I can make sure I can get off of work and everything (preferably 2+ weeks, if possible), but I know I had fun last year. It should be fun again, I'd think ... :)

We should go when it's haunted!!!!

 not this weekend!!mama - Oct 11th, 2004 at 3:22 pm
With being a best man in your brother's wedding this weekend, best look at another date, eh?

 Oh, dear!Lillibet Layne - Oct 11th, 2004 at 5:45 pm
Yay for Mike and Misty!!!!!!! :-D

I'd be willing to go on a Sunday if it ends up being next week. Is it open on Sunday? Maybe Friday?

It's haunted on the 22nd and 23rd...that seems like a good time. Also, it's far enough in advance that people could ask for work off. Just a thought...

I just realized that I said next week when I meant "weekend after next." (which is at the end of next week.) That Saturday is Brittney's bridal shower- therefore I am only free on the other two days.

Since I probably won't have a chance to talk to you again until after break, I thought I'd tell you that I LJ'd a specialized entry that you might be interested in seeing. Deals with the situation we've discussed previously, and hopefully I'll have a chance to talk it over with you sometime in greater detail. I just know that I promised you an update before I left for Break, and with you leaving tomorrow, and me leaving Friday .... Yeah. Anyhow, have fun at the wedding - I hope it goes well for all those involved. :) Take care.

Well, I can never watch that movie without crying....It gets me more than the book. Anyway, you are right about KMFDM having a coincidence....and funny you should bring them up.... I am going to see them in concert soon!! The first and last time I saw them was about 10 years ago now....... woah
