Buffy
Things are going to be better, baby, I promise.

So, I know this guy who's in a band and is working on all number of great projects. Sure, they fill his time, but at the end of the day, he has something to show for all the time he's spent on his projects. Me? I have Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

As mentioned before, my roommate has a compulsive need to collect a complete run of the TV shows he likes, so whenever he gets interested in a TV show, I can pretty much (eventually) be guaranteed access to the entire series. He picked up the entirety of Highlander [Ed note: That is, all the Highlander that has been released so far], Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and the tragically short-lived Firefly. Apparently, he liked Firefly so much that he decided to pick up Buffy simply because Joss Whedon created both.

I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm hooked, but I'm close enough that I'm seriously considering picking up a Willow action figure. If you don't know much about the show, Buffyology is a great place to start. [Thanks to Sarcasmo for the link]

I promise I will work on my content-management system, which will let me have as many entries in progress as I want. Now that I design sites for a living, I realize just how badly written I Eat Paint's engine is, so it's hard to know where exactly to start.

TV shows and CMS codeRon - Feb 23rd, 2005 at 7:45 pm
Sarah gets into TV shows and ends up collecting them. It drives me nuts, but what can I do? I've rewritten the code for my site a few times, and I'm looking at another modification, so I feel your pain when it comes to modifying site code.

I've wanted the Giles figure for a while now - after all - he's a hot, British librarian who fights evil. What's not to love? Can't ever quite bring myself to purchase it though.

Greg - I recommend you start out by looking at the W3C school, specifically the Introduction to HTML. The W3C is short for WWWC, which is short for World Wide Web Consortium. They're the people who formalized HTML and they're pretty much the most accurate reasource. Don't stress too much about setting up an amazing design when you're just starting out. You have your domain which means you have your own little playground on the world wide web. Have fun with it.

Sarcasmo - Yeah, I think a Giles figure would be cool, but he doesn't have quite the allure (to me, at least) of Willow. Forget the vamipre slaying or the sorcery, there's just something about a cute girl who can lecture on binary encoding. Hott.

Just for reference, your roommate does not have the entirety of Highlander. That particular series is on a very, shall we say, "conservative" release schedule. Not all seven seasons have been released yet (i just found that season six was released earlier this month; i should probably go acquire a copy). They've been releasing seasons since 2002.

I just wanted to say that I've done at least one complete rewrite on every major program I've written. It's just that I've found that I learn so much more about what the requirements are by creating the first version that it's easier to just start over than to try to fix it (of course, heavily referencing the old version for the parts that are in common). I've completely rewritten my spiders once already, and I'm really thinking about doing it again. I'm also taking over the site (for those of you who don't know, it's a travel related search engine that I am working on, and it is in beta testing so we're still working out a few things) and rewriting that too to handle error conditions better, as well as be HTML 4.1 compliant.

So basically what I am saying is, don't freak out about your first version of ieatpaint--it definitely has worked well so far, and in the process of making it and using it, you have learned more about what you need and want in it.

P.S. I hope you're doing well!!!

I didn't realize Highlander was on such a slow release. Entry updated.

This is the most activity I've seen on this site in a while. I don't know if it's a new cologne or hidden porn or what, but whatever it is, Matt, keep it up!
