I'm a nerd.
Computer, Transformer, and Battlefield nerdery

Good day, gentle readers. Today's entry was brought to you from my Palm Pilot via my cell. It turns out that the path of lease resistance from getting text files from the Palm is to send it via IR to my cell phone, and then via Bluetooth. I am king nerd. The Palm is nice because it allows me to work on entries pretty much anywhere, anytime, although as a downside I pretty much have to ignore everyone else because it's hard to converse and handwrite at the same time.

Harry Potter on the IMAX made my head hurt a little and Ashley got a little sick. We'll probably stick to regular screens when watching traditional movies, although I'd be willing to go back to see a movie made for IMAX. Did you know that when they translate Harry Potter to other languages, they translate the names, too? In Norwegian, Ron is known as 'Ronny Wilterson', and in Hindi, Harry is know as 'Hari Puttar'. The Japanese know Crookshanks as Kurukkushankusu, and those who read the books in Latin know Draco as Draconis Malfonis.

Hmmm. In retrospect, I may actually not be as big a nerd as I think I am; I'm 26 and just now watching Transformers: The Movie for the first time in my life. And it's not the normal version; it's the Canadian version (with swears!). And really, all I have to say is: frigging Hot Rod. What a jerk.

I've always loved Transformers, but the movie just doesn't capture the enjoyment of the toys themselves. I mean, Astrotrain has always been one of the more interesting Transformers to me, but in the movie, he's just... there. The nice thing is, while I'm sure the movie is lousy with subtext, in the end it's one of those no-thought-needed flicks where the good bots wear white, the bad bots wear black, and Scatman Crothers teams up with the Micro Machines man to save us from Orson Welles. With music by "Weird Al" Yankovic.

Random thought: Why does The Highwayman have both a sword and a pistol by his side? Unless it's a sword he can equip with his non-dominant hand (or he's willing to risk firing a pistol one-handed with his off-hand), he can't really use both. Then again, that provides him with both a ranged and a mêlée weapon. Really all he needs is a grappling hook or a zipline and some C-4 and he could be a class on Battlefield. Actually, that would be pretty sweet. I'm usually a medic, but it could be fun to be a highwayman from time to time. You know, on maps where the bases are seperated by long, lonely stretches of highway.

Friends, this is Ryan (Fattys) sister. Haha, I am in Italy with an Italian keyboard and I cant find all the punctuation.

SORRY, dont waste your time reading this unless you are ryan or are going to tell him:

I tried to leave you messages on aim, but it hasnt been working ... at least I dont think it has. Please tell mom to call sarahs french cell because none of our phone cards are working, she cant make calls but can recieve them and for some reason we cant dial out of any of the hotels, even WITH their help. Gotta love European technology!! OK, but the really important thing is that none of my paychecks are showing up on my account and I need them to if Id like to eat or sleep somewhere for the next week and a half. Dont freak out, I really (probably) have enough money to make it in there but Id feel A LOT more comfortable with those checks in there. Love ya, thanks for putting up with this ... and I woulda written you an email, but I cant find an email address for you or katie. My email is my AIM screen name at yahoo. THANKS for putting up with this, Matt!! SORRY!

FYI, I got her message...and it's taken care of. So you can go back to ignoring it.

How could you possibly write all that on your palm? It takes me five minutes just to hand write in an appointment. Though I would suppose the king nerd is much more proficient at those types of things than us mere mortals.

 Sword and pistolRon - Feb 26th, 2006
Could be the pistol wasn't accurate or he was a lousy shot. So he could fire the pistol at range if necessary, trying to even the odds, then draw the blade for close combat afterward. Or maybe he just needed to pad out the line to match the meter.

Matt, TF:TM is one of the greatest examples of traditional hand drawn cel-animation. I can't believe you'd diss it. Compare the opening scene of Unicron devouring Lithone to any other animated movie, and you'll see how high quality it is. The movie is 20 years old and even today Disney movies don't add that level of detail. With the aid of computers or without.

Astrotrain didn't have much to do with most of the normal episodes either, besides from

Astrotrain didn't have much to do with most of the normal episodes either, besides from (Triple Takeover) which is a highlight of him and his fellow triple-changer Blitzwing.

When it comes down to it, the Transformers TV shows were about selling toys. The movie included. It was an 80 minute toy commercial for the NEW toys, not the old toys from the first two seasons. So Astrotrain got the shaft, along with everyone else. It was made to showcase Hot-Rod and friends.

That being said, TF:TM to most Transformer fans is the absolute height of the G1 storyline. Megatron actually does something this time! The good guys win but at a terrible cost. And the Constructicons combining to form Devastator and delivering the line (Prepare for extermination) is priceless.

Anywho, just thought I'd give my two cents so you'd have a Transfans point of view on it. Rock, rock on!
